Serena Williams mindset of a champion

Last Saturday finished the Wimbledon Championship, where Serena Williams won her 22nd Grand Slam. This is the absolute record in her career.

Not to mention that she and her older sister Venus Williams also won the Women Doubles in the final. (That game was absolutely EPIC).

Over the last few years I started watching tennis, even though have never been a huge fan. You can learn so much from athletes, no matter what sport that is.

After Serena’s incredible winning I got so inspired, and wanted to share with you what you can learn from her. And more importantly, what you can implement into YOUR business and life.

So you might already know a little bit about Serena Williams’ background. She’s an American tennis player. Started her career very early. In 2002 she became the World No. 1 for the first time. And got that ranking back for the sixth time in 2013.

In short she became a pro at 14 years old. A champion at 17. And this past Wednesday got her 22nd Grand Slam, which she was persistently going after over the last year. She lost the previous 3 Grand Slam games, which didn’t allow her to break that record. However, she didn’t give up.

So that’s a little bit about her background and here’s what you can learn from Serena Williams and her amazing sports career.

1.Mindset of a WinnerSerena Williams mindset of a winner

Serena has both fans and haters. You’ll always have both of them. That’s the reality. She’s able to not pay attention to haters and not let them impact the way she plays. One very important key you can take from Serena is always think positive, and be focused on winning, instead of being afraid to fail. Have an end goal in mind.

When you look at Serena and how she walks into the court before the start of the game, you see confidence in her face. She comes determined to make it happen whatever it takes. Confidence and believing that you can win is the mindset of a champion. You have to work on developing that yourself. How do you do that? Work on improving your skills DAILY. Serena trains like a total monster day in and day out, that’s why she’s the number 1 in her field.

There’s no day that goes by that I feel like losing“. This is the true mindset of a winner.

2.Persistence

Serena started playing tennis early on. She’s gone through a lot of ups and downs (just like any athlete). She had her wins, and had the losses. Back in 2011 Serena Williams had a major injury that caused her to plummet from being number 1 to 172. OMG! Is it crazy or what?

However, in 2013 she gained her rank back. She could have left the tennis field and go do something else. She already had a lot of titles under her belt. Why push harder?

She was able to regain her focus that she’s lost at that time. She was too focused on her losses, instead of looking forward and running after wins. Once she changed that, she became number 1 again. She decided to persist regardless of her injuries and losses.

3.Never Giving Up

In 2015 Serena already had 21 Grand Slam titles. She was only 1 title away from scoring 22nd one, which was only done by Steffi Graf (German tennis player). Last year she was so close to making it happen, but lost 3 Grand Slam championships in a row, including this year’s Australian Open.

Someone else would have given up already. There’s a lot of very strong women tennis players right now. Maybe Serena should have pushed back and quit. NO WAY! She had a goal that she was pursuing. And she made it happen by winning Wimbledon 2016. Incredible. If you watched the final, you know it wasn’t easy to win at all. But she did it.

The lesson for you is – never give up, and never look at everyone else in the field. If someone else is winning, you can do it too. Focus on your vision. What is it that you wanna accomplish? Is it worth the effort? If the answer is yes, you know what you need to do.

I attached a short video below I attached the last game of Wimbledon final 2016 – Serena’s triumph. From my opinion, this was seriously the best game she’s ever played.

  1. What I love about learning from top athletes is that they have this passion, desire to make it no matter what gets in their way. And most will have people telling them they will never make it, the percentage is so low. They will look at those percentages and say, well that mean I can make it.

  2. Killer CONTENT!!! I always thing about this everyday- have the mindset of a champion. That’s what it takes to win in anything. Thanks for sharing =)

  10. Those three tips are great examples! This post is a great example of a post i wrote the other day where I shared that looking for training outside of just network marketing is a great way to grow your skill set. Just like this post you can apply the mindset Serena Williams and how she operates to any business. Even though she is a tennis player these principles still apply to anyone looking to build a business.

Great post Jelena. Awesome how you blended in the success of a tennis star with building a business!

    1. Oh yes Dereco!! There’s so much you can learn from athletes or different leaders, who are not even in network marketing.

Glad you enjoyed the post 🙂
